Blanco Road Home Propaganda Firm Throws Away Our Tax Dollars!

Our sources at several television stations around the state are telling us that the firm who bought the advertising for the Blanco Road Home program has not only cancelled the ads but they paid for them in full.

That's correct they pre-paid for the ads two weeks in advance and are not even bothering to go through the normal process of collecting a pro-rated share back from the stations who auction off the cancelled time. They just paid the full price for no, repeat, zero advertising time.

They just threw our hard earned taxpayer dollars out the window! The least they could have done is used the air time for a Blanco litter ad or something.

Television advertising money for the Blanco Road Home program propaganda campaign is funded with taxpayer dollars via ICF much maligned Road Home administrator.

Interesting questions to be answered are: who actually created the ads, who placed the buy and just how much of OUR MONEY did they waste, before and after the cancellation of the airing of the spots?



Pinnacle Pulling Down All Advertising in BR Market

Last night the Baton Rouge Metro Council was asked to do a very routine thing. Send a resolution to the State Bond Commission saying that the council "would debate" the issue of calling an election at their May 23rd meeting. Not vote, just debate!

In a (6 to 5) vote taken last night they refused.

Now, Pinnacle is in the process of deciding what they will do next. Will they leave, sell the license for a big profit, and simply decide to withdraw from the Greater Baton Rouge Area. Maybe invest their money somewhere else, like investing more in their new Atlantic City $1.2 billion project. That's one option.

Another other option is: Build it somewhere else in another parish.

And finally another one: Fight it out in Baton Rouge and see if the Council will really put it on the ballot.

Now, the problem is: because that was such a small vote, bonding firms on Wall Street, people who loan money for such projects, are now probably very hesitant to loan money for this kind of project in the Baton Rouge market. In short, ripples of this action went to Las Vegas and Wall Street giving Baton Rouge the identity of having a hostile political environment.

For now they have pulled down all advertising in the BR market.

A Metro Council panel on Wednesday advanced a proposed repeal of the blue laws banning the sale of wine and liquor at East Baton Rouge stores on Sundays, along with a proposed July 21 referendum on the south Baton Rouge riverboat casino proposed by Pinnacle Entertainment.

(Spokesman Billy) Rimes said he expects to reveal details of Pinnacle’s proposal to the council later this month, after the proposal is approved by the state Gaming Control Board.

LPNS COMMENTARY: The Pinnacle proposal envisions the most luxurious resort hotel Baton Rouge has ever seen, featuring fine dining and world-class live entertainment. It looks to be a spectacular new project and Pinnacle Entertainment is the fastest growing company in its industry.

Recent polling shows parish voters in favor of the proposal.

Councilman Pat Culbertson, a Republican, is trying to get the council to postpone the election until the fall. Apparently Culbertson is unaware that the last time a multi-million dollar riverboat election was held on a statewide date Mary Landrieu was very narrowly elected to her first term in the U.S. Senate. This upset victory was clearly due to the increased election day turnout of traditional Democratic voters by the boats.

He may want to reconsider his request.

The main oppostion is to the Pinnacle Resort is of course coming from the existing casinos in BR.
