NAACP threatens lawsuit

WWLTV

The President of the NAACP questioned the fairness and legality of the upcoming April 22 elections in Orleans Parish.

Standing on the steps of New Orleans City Hall on Monday morning, Bruce Gordon called the scheduled elections illegal for several reasons, among being his chief objection to the lack of information being given to displaced voters.

Gordon said there have been no guarantees or some level of assurances that substantial percentages of African-American and other displaced New Orleanians would be able to vote.

The NAACP called for the elections to be delayed until more information on absentee voting or a plan for getting displaced people who want to vote to Louisiana to do so. Gordon said he hoped the Department of Justice will come to “the right conclusion.”
