Mayor Candidate Suspends Campaigning While Daughter Hospitalized

KTBS TV

Shreveport mayoral candidate Jerry Jones has suspended campaign activities to be with his 16-year-old daughter, who has been hospitalized.

Jones said his daughter, Sarah, was admitted to Christus Schumpert Tuesday night for treatment of internal bleeding. Sarah's mother had taken her to the doctor earlier in the day after she told her she was sick, Jones said.

Doctors were doing tests today and hope to have results Thursday, Jones said. The teen-ager was being treated in one of the hospital's intensive care units.

In the meantime, Jones has canceled all campaign appearances until they know what's wrong with his daughter, who is a student at Byrd High School.

The mayor's election, between Jones and state Rep. Cedric Glover, is next Tuesday.Glover's campaign issued a statement this afternoon saying their prayers and support are with the Jones family.
