Overnight, Sen. Jay Dardenne went from potential elimination at the hands of a fellow Republican to the odds-on favorite to win the secretary of state's runoff over Democratic Sen. Francis Heitmeier.
While some pols question if he will stay in the race, Heitmeier says he's running, has scheduled a Tuesday fundraiser and is seeking financial help from national Democrats. Yet, Heitmeier, who expected to lead the primary, has to wonder if his New Orleans Democratic base, which went missing, will show up in sufficient numbers on Nov. 7.

Jay Dardenne knows only this about these governors (ROEMER & FOSTER)– he is light years more popular in Baton Rouge than they are, in fact he is now probably more popular statewide than they are."
