Agriculture Commissioner Bob Odom suffered a setback Thursday when a state panel rejected his bid to refinance a sugar-cane syrup mill with tax breaks set up to rebuild hurricane-stricken areas.
Odom’s proposal failed on a 7-7 vote in the state Bond Commission. Tie votes are the same as rejection.
State Treasurer John Kennedy, who led the opposition, said Odom’s plan envisioned using tax-exempt bonds authorized to boost the recovery of storm-damaged parishes.
