Gov. Kathleen Blanco is sitting on a campaign war chest of $2.4 million — far more than of any of the other statewide elected officials holding office in Louisiana today.
Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu lagged in campaign funds with just more than $50,000 in his re-election account — about what was reported by Robert Wooley, who is not running for re-election as insurance commissioner and in fact has quit the post.
Blanco has said she plans to seek a second term in the state’s highest office in fall 2007.
Her account is pretty healthy with re-election time a good way away, campaign treasurer Christopher C. Arsement said.
“It’s not bad. We would certainly like more. But I guess under the circumstances, it’s not bad at this point,” Arsement said.
Most of the contributions came in from small events prior to Katrina, Arsement said.
The campaign reported $975,173 in receipts during 2005. Of that, $917,783 was cash contributions. The campaign also spent $278,718 during the year.
LPNS COMMENTARY: SHE'S GOING TO NEED A WHOLE LOT MORE THAN THAT!
